From Workshop to Luxury Camp - Belfast, Maine.
Why camp when you can glamp?
This aspiring guest room terrified me when I first saw it. The bathroom was awful (though I did LOVE the black vintage sink and toilet for another project), the wood panelling was so overwhelming and the suspended ceiling and strip lights just lit the place up in all the wrong ways, yet I had a warm fuzzy feeling about keeping the wood. Maine is Maine after all and this IS the place for camp, so I decided to start by getting rid of the ceiling and the terrible lighting to see if I could begin to soften the room.
As I pulled down the ceiling tiles I could see another 3- 4 feet of space up there and luckily, it was wood panel all the way up. It was a sign. Sheet-rocking the ceiling and painting it white immediately lifted the wood. Painting the sill that ran all the way around broke it up and gave an opportunity to add interesting pieces to create height and add color.
The chandelier, four poster bed and luxurious fabrics added the cozy factor and helped that 12 foot ceiling height feel good, rather than too lofty.
The storage room became a sweet little dressing room by adding lighting, a hanging rail, dressing table, mirror and carpet, and the bathroom went from a dark, dirty, worse than an actual camp toilet to a fresh, clean sanctuary.

Named 'The Wilderness Suite' this is one of my favorite rooms and became one of our most popular Airbnb rental spaces, it welcomes you and invites you to sit in the rocking chair or on the bed and read a book or just relax. It's genuinely like glamping, but way better.
