Waterfront Living - Belfast, Maine.
From New England chintz, to sleek, stylish and modern home.
This two bedroom, one story property has a history of love and care, but mainly of growth. Starting as a camp, lovingly named 'The Shack' back in the 1940's, it had been extended several times over the decades. The result was a dark, warren-like home with many corridors and no real entrance. Lots of doors led into lots of small, enclosed rooms and the waterfront view was blocked completely by a large brick chimney and light restricted by very small, over dressed windows.
Opening up the floor-plan was the first step to see how we could create flow through the home and define usable space. Removing the chimney gave us so much scope and enabled us to develop a water-focused living area and kitchen. Moving the front door into a prominent position on approaching the house and repurposing the covered wood store area made a welcoming entrance into what developed into an elegant, spacious and modern home.

Modernizing the decor, creating a blank canvas by reducing the paint palette throughout and bringing in color in the furniture itself has transformed what was once a dark, cluttered, overly patterned nightmare; into a sleek, modern and welcoming, relaxing home. 180 degree views are the main focus for all of the seating areas, after-all, when you are this close to the water, it demands your attention.
