Trash to Treasure - Belfast, Maine.

From hoarder hell to peaceful river front property. A place to recoup whilst visiting the Mid-Coast Maine.

This two bedroom, one story property has a history of abuse and neglect, but that didn't stop new owners Alana & Evan from snapping it up with a view to bring it back to life. They saw past the HEAPS of trash and junk and saw a sweet little home nestled in a patch of trees, wrapped lovingly by a rushing river. The river provides a natural boundary and a soundtrack to your stay in this newly remodeled home.

The previous owners had filled every surface with their collections and the walls were either filthy or an incredible shade of green paint that I hope no longer exists. The kitchen, when we finally found it underneath mountains of trash, was rotten and the ceiling was speckled with damp patches from multiple roof leaks. The place was in terrible shape inside and out.

The first step was to remove all of the junk and see what we were really working with. The roof was replaced and a Porch added over the front door to give the home some balance and height. The siding was removed, the walls came down, the carpets and floors came out and we finally had our blank canvas to play with.

Completely renovating a home due to neglect rather than to change the layout of a space was a new one to me, but we added our touches by adding a walk out slider to the master bedroom, adding new windows and doors and of course, redesigning the kitchen and bathroom for modern living. We created a blank canvas by reducing the paint palette throughout and bringing in color in the furniture itself and transformed what was once a dark, cluttered, filthy nightmare; into a sleek, modern and welcoming, relaxing home. The river wrapped around the back of the house embraces the picnic area outside and a year later, the grass is grown in and the flower beds are blooming, just like this adorable little home, from mountains of trash, to an absolute treasure to all that stay there.
