Traditional Maine Cape
A Traditional Maine Cape on the outside, gets a new lease on life on the inside.
This spacious, yet strangely laid out home had so much potential when we purchased it in 2021. The previous owners had loved it and had started to make their mark on it but found, as we did, that it was simply a LOT of house. The home spans, from right to left, 85' and is 2500 square feet.
With 4 bedrooms, one above the large garage, a full bathroom on each floor and 2 additions, one a sunroom and one with a floor to 13' ceiling stone fireplace, this place is humongous and a LOT of work. But we were not deterred from the challenge.
We began by extending the deck to add a pool, adding windows to maximize the views and the light coming into the house, balancing out the odd layout and moving a few doors (there were SO many doors). We pulled the access to the above garage space into the house, rather than it being accessed from the garage and updated the bathrooms. The rest was a LOT of paint, dying carpets, reconfiguring and painting the kitchen and generally giving it the love it truly needed and 100% deserved.

Now completed, the home really is a joy. It is nestled in behind a copse of stunning pines and backed by woods filled with apple trees and silver birch. You can watch the sunset from the pool, enjoy the tree tops from the bath tub and play games by the fire. The kitchen is now a social hub with a great dining space and the front and back of the house are PERFECT for socializing. The high ceilings in the bedrooms are luxurious and just SO, so peaceful.
In a nutshell, the exterior of the house exudes personality, wrapped in aged wood with its soaring dormers, stone chimney and traditional front porch; but inside it lacked creativity and warmth, yet was begging to become as welcoming as it appeared on approach. Moving the few walls and reducing the number of doors, modernizing the decor and creating a blank canvas by reducing the paint palette throughout and then bringing in pops of color in the furniture has transformed what was once a poorly laid out and not particularly welcoming, or functional home.
Now, it shines, inside and out.
