Harnessing the golden energy of this 100+ year old home.
This is where my interior design story begins. This is my home and I had the vision of what it has become from the minute I saw it.
The house radiated love and warmth, even after standing empty for 5 years and I could immediately imagine myself and my husband living here. The house, built in 1906 and renovated back in the 80's had been loved and was in great shape, but it desperately needed updating. There was minimal insulation, siding and horse hair plaster throughout, no real heating aside from the fireplace and the only full bathroom was downstairs.
The renovations were a labor of love and took us 18 months of blood sweat and tears, we did it ourselves and learned a LOT along the way. When we finally had the layout as we had dreamed of it, it was time to begin to build our spaces. We LIVE in our kitchen and bringing it into the magical light at the front of the house was the best move we ever made. It is bathed in calm morning light and thoughtful lighting balances the golden evening light that floods into the lounge opposite, creating balance and harmony, regardless of the time of day.
This house simply glows, seemingly from within, and I wanted to enhance that wherever I could. The mustard furniture and gold touches do this in spades in the main living area and continue in smaller color pops throughout the house to create flow. Each room feels as though it belongs to the others and this makes it such a lovely place to live. There are no jarring revelations around the corner, no shocking surprises, just calm and collected, yet warm and welcoming rooms everywhere you go.
Painting the house white throughout has been a revelation; it gave us a blank canvas and the walls are genuinely never simply white. The light changes constantly, creating shadows and shapes that mesmerize and stop me in my tracks daily, and while I am a huge fan of color in my designs I am hooked on starting with white and building color into a space with furniture, functional pieces and textures.

While this is where my interior design journey began, it is far from where it ends. I hope I can help you uncover the natural beauty of your home too and work with you to create spaces that make you stop and smile every day.
